“Paddle for Life Scheme”

To address the issues of climate change it is often said that everybody will need to be ‘on board’. The metaphorical link with our team Catamarans is a strong one - social skills, working together and appreciating the strengths and weaknesses of others are key learning points of this exercise.

Making a paddle involves a number of skills and can be incorporated into a variety of subjects. For example: A design & technology project, an introduction to the carbon cycle, an introduction to systems thinking and making a practical item that can then be used in undertaking a journey in a boat whilst studying wildlife, history, transport, mathematics, geography or gathering material for a literacy project.
We can visit your school to assist in the production of the paddles.
The paddle kits cost: £5.00. for juniors (small size) £6.50 for secondary schools, (large size). Includes assistance from our staff in your school.
A follow up session at Wokingham Waterside Centre using ‘catamaran’ style boats can be part of the journey once the paddle is made. Cost per person: 1 hour - £5.00, half day - £12.00 (9.30 - 12.00 or 12.30 - 3.00pm) and a full day - £21.00 (9.30 - 3.00).
All our educational packages are tailored to your needs. Please contact a member of the Wokingham Waterside Centre team for more information.
